The Story

This lacquered tray in eastern black walnut is a wood luxury creation with pure and refined lines, produced in the line of the ancient art of Japanese craftsmanship. The eastern black walnut sections are independently carved and finely sanded before being assembled. At least 14 layers of “smoke choco” lacquer are successively applied, each punctuated by a period of drying and a new phase of sanding to offer the eastern black walnut its most brilliant reflection.

The Craftsmanship

The French word "ébéniste" (cabinetmaker) appeared in the dictionary of the French Academy for the first time in 1732, to distinguish it from the carpenter, because cabinetmakers make use gilding, marquetry, veneer and other techniques. Cabinetmakers work on living wood stock for a decorative purpose, defining the model and its ornamentation; They saw the components, plan them to the right sizes, and finish them by sanding, varnishing, waxing or scraping.
